At Wit’s End…
AWE is a private, faith based organization with the mission of uniting people & horses to discover goal oriented paths through experiential therapy services. Our wish is for each person to rediscover- what has meaning, forgive what’s broken, or find hope and harmony with grace and integrity.
In a country setting nestled among rolling hills and peaceful creeks, AWE is within twenty minutes of the major Tri cities communities.
Programs are available for children, adults, couples, and families living with autism, veterans/PTSD, and general life issues. Programs are structured in conjunction with parents, local practitioners, agencies, and school systems.
Equine Assisted Learning
Interaction with horses can determine responses in life, whether discovering your goals, or compromising to achieve those goals. The process of effective learning takes place first. Whether engaging in an activity, contemplative reflection, or gaining insight from analysis, using that result as a change in understanding &/or behavior is key.
In the schools, EAL considers the needs and reengages students in the educational process. EAL is effective with exceptional students, those with disabilities, and students at risk of dropping out.
Equine Assisted Therapy
Utilizing horses and working with area health practitioners to quit talking about, and start living life. Significant results can be achieved in a shorter time frame due to interaction with horses. EAT can be used for clients who feel “stuck” in traditional therapy, or where traditional therapy is not effective or appropriate.
Why Horses
- Horses are large & powerful animals with defined social roles.
- Horses insist on knowing ‘who’ is leading each step of the way. They follow when goals are clear, and are willing to negotiate along the way.
- Horses bring varied experiences, ages, sizes, and personalities to their mentoring positions.
- Horses require varying levels of involvement, and can mirror human behavior. It becomes our choice to decide how we want to lead.
The concept of outdoor learning provides a supportive learning environment. Being outdoors provides the value of helping participants rediscover their imagination, identify and let go of preconceived notions & attitudes, and develop intuitive wisdom, or ‘horse sense’.
Daily, the staff and volunteers realize new opportunities for personal learning and growth through the routine care and maintenance of these special animals. The equine mentors of AWE have changed their own lives, and those of others through many of life’s trials and tribulations.
“Horses are exact in their behaviors, they don’t lie!”
Now I am a gatekeeper for these horses to assist others in their discovery of personal paths to healing. Healing spiritually, forgiveness of the heart, and peaceful acceptance of the things in life we can’t change are an evolution. However, remember we can make choices, its just finding the right ones! Thank you for your interest in AT WIT’S END. I hope your experiences will translate into an AWE-some life!
Always With Equines,
Juanita
